Personal Branding
When it comes to brand identities, I enjoy modern, clean, and simple lines because I believe it allows the viewer to appreciate the graphic elements fully without being distracted by too much detail. So, I decided to keep that in my brand identity. My brand identity represents me as a modern, creative, and intuitive designer.
Sketches
I started with ten different sketches to get a feel for what kind of logo I preferred by sketching out different ways to put the letters ‘E’ and ‘P’ together. I chose to do this in ProCreate to see how the logos would look digitally, which gave me a better idea of what I wanted to move forward with.
Color Palette
While I love a modern and clean design, I don’t like it to be too cold and harsh. I chose dark purple as my main color to soften my brand identity. Not only does this soften my brand identity a bit, but it also shows a little bit of me and reflects my last name by typically being associated with royalty. Purple is associated not only with royalty but also with rarity, ambition, and creativity, which reflect me as a person.
Typography
Shimano is a square typeface with no rounded edges or corners. This typeface, which is also square, complements my final logo design, keeping my brand identity simple and modern. Sweet Square Pro is another square typeface; however, it has more rounded bowls and is lighter in weight. This pairs well with Shimano because they are both square typefaces, but the rounded bowls also soften the overall logo and the color.
Logo Concepts
After narrowing down my sketches, I refined the strokes, corners, and shapes of my preferred logos and continued to create more variations of those specific logos. I changed the sizes of the ‘E’s stokes, added gaps between intersecting lines, and rounded and squared the ‘P.’ I preferred the squared ‘P’ and the gaps between the lines. This allowed me to experiment with different variations while maintaining a modern and clean design throughout all logos.
Initial Drafts
Out of all of my concepts, I liked the more blocky, geometric logos. In this draft, I played with the sizing of the ‘E’s middle line and added my name. I felt that this monogram design was still not quite there yet. It felt too basic and like more could still be done to the monogram. I started using Condor Extended for my typography. However, this typeface was too round to go with a sharp geometric logo and too long of a typeface, where most of my logo is the text and not the actual monogram.
Final Logo
Finally, here is my final logo. The top of the ‘E’ and ‘P’ is one complete line connecting the two letters, the ‘P’ is squared, and the top half of the middle line is removed to create a compelling and modern monogram. The monogram combined with my full name in the square typeface creates a seamless design. Its clean, squared lines allow my brand identity to maintain a modern design.
